Recent Updates

Product Rebrand & Data Continuity

Transitioned the product, background service, and command-line tools from whisrs to keyspeake. Existing configuration settings, dictation history, and cached audio seamlessly carry over with automatic fallback for existing installations.

Unified Desktop Application

Introduced a unified desktop interface integrating dictation history, custom settings, and text rewriting tools into a single app shell with custom dark and light themes.

  • Custom window title bar featuring functional minimize, maximize, and close controls.
  • Frameless window design with OS-level rounded desktop corners.
  • Single-instance application guard focusing active windows rather than opening duplicate processes.
  • Inline audio player in dictation history with play, pause, time tracking, and interactive scrubber.
  • Tabbed history view (Today, Past 7 Days, Last Month, Older) optimized for instant navigation across thousands of entries.

Storage & History Management

Added a Storage Settings panel displaying usage breakdowns for cached audio and transcript text, configurable retention limits, and optional audio persistence toggles.

  • Automated history retention pruning based on entry limits or unlimited storage mode.
  • Manual audio cache cleanup and two-step safety confirmation for wiping dictation records.
  • Immediate action feedback cues (loading spinners, success indicators, alert states) for copying, playing, and re-transcribing entries.

Read-Aloud Speech Synthesis

Replaced external background helpers with native in-process audio playback for highlighted text. Launching a new read-aloud request immediately stops prior active playback to avoid overlapping audio.

Linux Integration & Packaging

Official Debian (.deb) package support shipping desktop shortcuts, background user services, manual pages, and auto-configured permissions. Added improved active window detection for Sway and X11 environments.

Security & Stability Improvements

Applied security patches across core networking and cryptography dependencies. Implemented atomic file saving for configuration settings and history updates to prevent data corruption during unexpected restarts.
